waking temps
Super 8 film, hand-synced sound
19 minutes
2014

A documentation project filmed for 28 days in Turin, Italy, where the artist took her Basal Body Temperature (waking temperature) every morning and used the reading to designate which of her daily quotidian tasks she would record and film that day.

Structuralist in nature, for 30 seconds everyday she filmed her morning rituals with her Super 8 camera in one hand and the intention to do the task with the other. This limitation (doing tasks with one hand) highlights the fact that the artist is alone making this film (and a baby) and pushes her to perform the tasks one-handed.

Basal body temperature (BBT) is one’s morning body temperature; it stays stable for men and changes for women. Charting this temperature is a way for women to determine ovulation. A woman’s waking temperature will vary between 35.4o and 36.8o degrees Celsius, depending on the individual.  https://youtu.be/khn1FiMDzro
